Random Wednesdays | What's your Chapter 1?

Leadership Unlocked | Jason Sims
Random thoughts from the mind of Jason Sims

A good book can never be truly revealed by only reading Chapter 1. As you may know my son loves baseball, he has had lots of success and I’m a baseball dad. He is gifted in the sport. Yesterday was his 1st HS baseball game-Chapter 1 if you will. I drove 50 minutes, sat in the freezing cold for 5 hours and guess what he had 0 batting attempts, 0 fielding opportunities. He was buried at the bottom of the bench as I watched all the other boys play, some in which you could tell were novice. There are several factors in HS sports: (grades, attitude, skill level, dedication, culture, politics, etc.....). Those factors are for another day but today the main take away is he never took off his sweatshirt. It could have been completely his fault, I’m not sure but skill is not the issue, it was his Chapter 1. So I got to talk to him about all me and his grandfathers chapter 1’s. I was told I would never graduate HS by my drafting teacher as a freshman cause I was a “weed” head. Chapter 1 Mrs Goheen a school counselor rescued me from him and I graduated with the highest male GPA in my class. That book is finished. I was told by the Dean of engineering in a meeting as a freshman at KU that I wasn’t engineering material and I should transfer to liberal arts. Chapter 1 God sends Florence Boldridge in my path and she mothered/mentored me. BS in Civil Engineering (finished the book) I was told in my first year of working I wasn’t management material by my immediate supervisor. Chapter 1 Beth Wright took a chance on this young kid and made me one of the youngest managers and let’s just say it worked out for over 15 yrs building an amazing award winning team. (Finished the book) When I moved to consulting I was told I wouldn’t be successful if I didn’t change my appearance, talk different and soften up. Chapter 1 Still being myself and manage over 20% of my companies workforce in North America. (Still writing this book) A Pastor told me I wouldn’t be able to play the organ/keys cause I was 23. It’s too late to start he said. Chapter 1 God put Steve Scott Gabe Roland and Pastor Keith Newton in my path and let’s just say I was playing for service in 3 months, proficient in all keys in 18 months. (Still writing this book) I could go on and on as it relates to pastoring, family, business, relationships, community redevelopment....etc So many Chapter 1’s. I had to make many modifications and course corrections during my books but I never stayed on chapter 1. So Jaylen that was Chapter 1, but I assure you it’s not the finished book. Your name is Ervin Jaylen Sims a pedigree that finishes books. Play ball Do you have a chapter 1? Aren’t you glad that’s not the end of the book. Don’t let others write your story, keep writing YOUR OWN story and “Unlock” the leader inside of you. Hey Leader, will you be willing to subscribe to my free platform next week? I love my momma
