In the past 18 months there have been so many challenges, and I must say that the world has changed. I embrace tradition, history and certainly don't have a desire to "recreate the wheel" but a statement that can kill an organization is that "we have always done it this way".
Let me share a story. I'm a fishing enthusiast. I geo code my great fishing spots, and often visit them succesfully every year. For the last few years, on the same day it has been close to the same temperature in the fall and I go to the same spot and catch LOTS of fish. Well this time I went to the same spot and used the same bait and caught NOTHING. It had been 4hrs and I had caught no fish, so I decided to change bait and I caught 1 quickly. Stubborn ole me, I quickly reverted back to the old way because I had always done it that way and I went another hour without a bite. I could see the fish on my electronics and I just shrugged it off as the fish weren't hungry because of course it couldn't be me. Well it started to get dark and I decided to change my bait and use a different method. I caught one as soon as I dropped it in. I used the same bait on 3 different poles and I was catching fish faster than I could take them off the hook. All I had to do was change my APPROACH and METHOD.
I was still fishing, but the approach and method had to change. In 2021, don't be afraid to PIVOT and change your approach or method. Not getting the results you want.....PIVOT. Not getting the sales you are used to seeing.....PIVOT. Are people not responding to your Leadership style........PIVOT. Stay focused on the desired outcome but change your approach and method. It doesnt diminish your leadership if you course correct and establish a new vision for execution. It only diminishes your leadership if you don't and continue down the path of "WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE IT THIS WAY!"
No matter how large or small, old or young your team/organization is, it only matters if you LEAD them with a determined focus to get results no matter what. Even if you have to innovate and change your approach.
